Women are more worried than men about the current economic climate in the UK, it has been revealed.

A survey by Moneywise found 43 per cent of females are concerned about their financial future, compared with 25 per cent of their male counterparts.

One in three women admitted they had cut back on spending as a result of money worries, in comparison to 16 per cent of men who had started tightening their belts.

Rachel Lacey from Moneywise said: "As figures on economic growth and unemployment show that we are now heading into a recession, it seems that women are taking this more seriously than men."

She added women often deal with household budgets and may, therefore, be more aware of the rising cost of living.

Female motorists may find they can save money by opting for car insurance specially-designed for women.

This type of cover sometimes offers lower rates because the fairer sex is generally considered a relatively low risk group.
